Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested a drug smuggler in Baramulla and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali, assisted by SHO PS Uri arrested most wanted & notorious drug smuggler at a checkpoint established at Uri and during search recovered 276 grams of Charas like contraband substance besides a cash of Rs 10000/- (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) from the possession of the said accused identified as Mohammad Sharief S/o Ghulam Mohd R/o Hathlanga Uri who was shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Stating that the police registered a case under relevant sections at Police Station Uri and initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt strictly as per law.
