Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested eight gamblers in Baramulla and Bandipora districts and also seized stake money from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla, while acting on specific inputs about gambling activities near Govt Degree College Pattan, a police party led by SHO Police Station Pattan raided the specific spot and arrested four gamblers identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie S/o Mohd Ramzan R/o Frastahar Kreeri, Nadeem Ahmad Wani S/o Nazir Ahmad Wani R/o Wailoo Hajibal, Ab Majeed Sheikh S/o Gh Mohd Sheikh R/o Par Mohalla Pattan & Assadullah Bhat S/o Gh Mohi ud din Bhat R/o Bhat Mohalla Pattan. Police in it’s statement further said that Rs. 8300/- and playing cards were also recovered from the possession of the above named accused who were shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that in a similar action in Bandipora also, a police party led by Incharge Police Post Aloosa raided the particular spot and arrested four Gamblers identified as Tousif Ahmad Dar, Mohmad Maqbool Fafoo, Bashir Ahmad Dar and Farooq Ahmad Dar all residents of Aloosa Ghat and also seized stake money and playing cards from their possession, Police in it’s statement furthermore said that all the accused have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody, adding therein that police has registered a case under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and initiated further investigation into the case.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police warned that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt strictly as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
