Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam, Handwara & Baramulla districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Kulgam, a police party headed by SHO Police station Behibagh at a checkpoint established at Alamgunj crossing, intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during search, 11Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Arshid Ahmad Bhat S/o Abdul Gani Bhat R/o Machewa following which he was immediately arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in it’s statement also said that in an another similar action in Handwara, a police party of Police Station Qalamabad at a checkpoint established at Batagund crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during search, 50gms of Charas like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Aquib Nazir Bhat S/o Nazir Ahmad Bhat R/o Kargam Handwara following which he was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in its above referred statement further said that similarly in Baramulla also, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Kreeri Khalid Ashraf, assisted by SHO PS Chandoosa arrested a drug smuggler during naka checking at Daru Chandoosa, adding therein that 400grams of charas like contraband substance was also recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Bilal Ahmad Rather S/o Gh Mohiuddin Rather R/o Bandi Payeen Chandoosa following which he was shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that the police later accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and also initiated further investigations , Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law
