Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested a drug smuggler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession besides destroying wild bung in Main town Pampore area of Awantipora.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party led by SHO Police Station Boniyar under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali during naka checking at Chandanwari Boniyar intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during search, 28 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession following which he was identified as Aman-Ullah Khan S/o Gh Rasool Khan R/o Chandanwari Boniyar, adding therein that the said accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Stating that the police accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Boniyar and initiated further course of investigation into the case, Police in it’s statement furthermore said that meanwhile in Awantipora, Police Station Pampore along with officials of Revenue Department, Horticulture, R&B and MC Pampore launched a bung destruction drive jointly in the Main Town Pampore and its adjacent areas and destroyed wild bung spread over 15 kanals of land, adding therein that people of the area have appreciated the action taken by the police and urged the authorities to continue this drive in nearby areas also.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be strongly dealt as per law.
