Infiltration bid foiled in Kupwara’s Machil Sector, 2 militants killed: Army

Srinagar: A day after four foreign Militants were killed in Poonch district of Jammu, two infiltrating Militants were killed in Machil sector of Kupwara district by the joint teams of security forces on Wednesday.
A defence spokesman in Srinagar in a statement issued on Wednesday said that based on a specific intelligence provided by BSF, duly corroborated by other intelligence agencies of likely infiltration through Machil Sector, a joint operation by Army, BSF and police was planned and multiple ambushes were laid along the likely routes of Infiltration.
“On the intervening night of 18/19 July, own troops detected suspicious movement along the Line of Control. The movement of Militants was continuously tracked through surveillance devices. At around 4:55 am, contact was established with the Militants. Intense firefight ensued resulting in elimination of two foreign Militants,” the spokesman said.
He said that a thorough Joint Search Operation was launched along with police in the morning, resulting in recovery of four AK series rifles, one UBGL, five UBGL Grenades, nine magazines, 175 AK rounds, six hand grenades, tactical vests and large quantities of war like stores.
“The identity of Militants is being ascertained. This successful counter infiltration operation is yet another example of exemplary synergy between the security forces. It is also an indicator of repeated attempts by Militant groups to push Militants and war like stores into Jammu and Kashmir to disturb the prevailing peace, development and growth in the Union Territory,” the defence spokesman said.
A police spokesman in a statement issued on Wednesday said that Police and security forces demonstrated their readiness to protect the nation against all odds. “In a highly coordinated joint anti-militancy operation launched by Army, Kupwara Police & BSF, an infiltration bid was foiled by neutralizing two Pakistani Militants along the LoC in Machil Sector of Kupwara district,” the spokesman said.
He said that acting on specific intelligence regarding infiltration bid by Militants, Police, Army (14 Dogra), and BSF (140Bn) launched a counter-infiltration operation along LoC in Machil Sector of Kupwara. “In this swift and coordinated operation, the joint team naturalized two (02) Pakistani Militants in the wee hours, when their movement was observed along LoC, thereby ensuring the safety and security of the region. The bodies of the Militants were retrieved by the joint team from the place of encounter. The identification and affiliation of the killed Militants is being ascertained,” the police spokesman said.
He said that the joint team also recovered arms & ammunition including 04 AK series rifles, 09 AK Magazines, 175 AK rounds, 06 hand grenades, a UBGL, 04 UBGL grenades and other incriminating materials from the site of encounter. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation taken up, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar in his message has said that this successful operation not only foiled the infiltration attempt but also dealt a severe blow to the plans of Militants to disrupt peace and stability in the valley. “The dedication and commitment of Jammu & Kashmir police/security force personnel involved in this anti-militancy operation have once again demonstrated their readiness to protect the nation against all odds,” the spokesman said
