Shopian: Labour Department Shopian on Tuesday organized an awareness programme for building and other construction workers at the Employment Office, Shopian.
The event was aimed to educate participants about the registration/ renewal process and welfare schemes provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB).
Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) Shopian, Peer Zameer Ahmed addressed the participants, and provided detailed information about the registration process. He also explained the welfare schemes currently run by the JKBOCWWB for the welfare of the construction workers.
ALC also informed that 11000 construction workers are active in the district till date and stressed for online registration instead of visiting offices to save their precious time. He enlightened the participants about the welfare schemes of JKBOCWWB, both presently active and those planned to be implemented in the next financial year.
On the occasion, Dr. Nida Yousuf, ALC, JKBOCWWB, apprised the participants about several upcoming enhancements to the welfare schemes, including an increase in the rate of scholarships for various classes.
She also apprised them about the special scholarship of Rs. 50,000 for the wards of registered BOC workers who secure 90% and above marks in 10th and 12th class.
Furthermore, she discussed the re-induction of marriage assistance, emphasizing the importance of registration for construction workers to avail themselves of the benefits offered by the welfare schemes for the betterment of their livelihoods.
Addressing the concerns of the participants, she assured them that the pending cases of various assistance requests in the board would be cleared as soon as possible.
On Tuesday, Education assistance was also released in favour of 997 beneficiaries through DBT mode.
The programme was also attended by the staff members of the Labour Department, workers and other concerned.
