Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam district and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarter Srinagar Police said that a police party headed by Incharge Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established on Jammu-Srinagar highway near Nippora crossing intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration No. JK01M-8715 driven by Nasir Ahmad Mir S/o Abdul Rashid Mir R/o Trapoo Achabal, Anantnag, adding therein that during checking of the vehicle 10 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance and cash of Rs 50,000 (pertains to the proceeds of narcotics) was recovered, adding therein that police accordingly arrested the accused and shifted him to police station where he is in custody.
Stating that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, Police in it’s statement further said that a case vide FIR No. 149/2023 has been registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Qazigund and investigation into the case has been also initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police urged people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and assured them that it will act tough against the criminals as per law.
