Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam, Contraband substance also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police in Kulgam on Monday said that it has arrested a drug peddler and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from the Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Station Qazigund established a checkpoint near Emergency Hospital Qazigund where it intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and was subsequently identified as Vijay Kumar S/o Saiyana Das R/o RS Pora Jammu, adding therein that during search, 7.5 Kgs of Poppy Straw concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted him to the police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered a case vide FIR No. 148/2023 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Qazigund and initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police urged people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and assured them to act tough against the criminals indulging in antisocial activities under law.
