Srinagar: Noted Poet Zarief Ahmad Zareefّs collection of one humorous poems “ Boozey Ne Kaansi Zaeri,,ً was on Saturday released in presence of a galaxy of senior citizens at Ahata Waqaar ,Chanapora. ( Day Care & Recreation Center for senior citizens). The Center has been set up by Jammu and Kashmir Government in collaboration of District Legal Services Authority , (SLSA) ,Srinagar with a noble cause to serve senior citizens for ,“Ageing with dignity”, Secretary , SLSA, Srinagar , Justice Jehangir Bukhari ,District Social Welfare Officer ,Srinagar Mukhtar Ahmad , Chairman Ahata Waqaar Chanapora , Ab Gani Parray , Secretary Ahata Waqar Khazir Mohd Trag , Writer and poet Mushtaq Mehram , Educationist Prof. Qazi Altaf , Sufi Poet , Khurshid Ahmad Zargar , who is son of the Famous sufi poet Late Abdul Ahad Zargar , prominent writer Hameed Siraj , former Dy Secretary Civil Sectt Manzoor Ahmad were among the galaxy of prominent personalities present on the occasion.
The proceedings commenced with recitation of holy Quran by prominent Imam- w- khatib of Khankahi Maula ,Chrari Sharief , Master Nazir Ahmad Khateeb. The speakers highlighted the importance of setting up of “ Ahata Waqar ” (senior citizens center ) for welfare and upkeep of the senior citizens . “ Senior citizens were the treasure- trove of knowledge and experience , whose guidance was very beneficial to the society ,“ the speakers said, adding therein that they should be provided with congenial atmosphere and a vibrant platform to share their experiences for the benefit of the society. The speakers also lauded the role of Zarief Ahmad Zarief for bringing social awakening in the society through his poetry and mass movement .
Speaking on the occasion , Zareef Ahmad Zareef urged the need for purifying the society from the prevaing social evils . He said Kashmir was a 5000 years old coherent civilization adding that we should preserve our rich heritage and vast natural resources for our posterity. He called for soul searching and self introspection adding that every indivisual of the society has to share his responsibility and duties towards betterment and preservation of the society. Zareef Ahmad Zareef ,besides bieng a prominent poet and writer of kashmir , is associated with multifaceted social activities . He is Chairman Ahad Zargar Memorial Research Foundation , Chairman Valley Citizens Council Kashmir , Chairman Ghulam Ahmad Sofi Memorial Trust , Member Advisory Board Saitya Academy Kashmir , Care Concern Forum ,Member Program Advisory Committee Radio kashmir and Chairman Chinar Committee Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, DSWO ,Mukhtar Ahmad said that ensuing world senior citizens day on21st August would be celebrated at various places in district Srinagar also with much fanfare and enthusiasm . He assured that a physiotherapist club and a modern senior citizens center would be set up shortly in Chanapora area.
