Srinagar : A councilor affiliated with Ghulam Nabi Azad led party DPAP was on Friday elected as new president Municipal Council Baramulla after he defeated his rival candidate by a margin of one vote.
Reports said out of 18 votes, Kakroo got nine votes while his opponent, Touseef Raina got eight votes. One vote was rejected as the councilor (Ashiq Ahmed Ganaie @ Ashiq MLA) opted to stay away from the secret ballot voting.
“This is victory of my people, my councilors. We will work together as a team to carry out the development activities in MC Baramulla,” Kakroo told reporters after his election as the civic body chief.

“Congratulations to Umar Kakroo sahib on being elected as Chairman, Municipal Council Baramulla! A monumental victory for DPAP in Kashmir.
