7A-Side Inter-Departmental Football tournament begins at IUST

Awantipora: The Interdepartmental Football Tournament organized by Directorate of Physical Education and Sports IUST commenced at IUST here on Friday. The tournament was inaugurated by Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Registrar in presence of other university officers including Mr. Sameer Wazir (Finance Officer), Dr. Waseem Bari (Controller examination), Deans of Various Schools and Heads of departments.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office IUST here, Prof. Iqbal complimented the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports for organizing the tournament and encouraged students to actively participate in such events. He highlighted the importance of sports in a student’s life, stating that sports help students develop critical life skills such as problem-solving, communication, and teamwork, and promotes physical psychological fitness.
The tournament’s opening match was played between Mechanical Engineering and IMBA and Department of Mechanical Engineering emerged victorious with a score of 6-5 in penalty shootout. Earlier Dr. Hilal Ahmad Rather Assistant Director Physical Education & Sports welcomed the guests and spoke about the rich sports culture at IUST.
