Sharad Pawar expresses concern over deterioration of quality of education in schools

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party National President Sharad Pawar on Friday expressed concern over the deterioration of the quality of education in schools in Maharashtra.

In a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, a copy of which was marked to Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister besides posting it in his twitter account, Mr Pawar said a competent education system leads to the improvement of the society.

In Maharashtra, many educationists like Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil recognized this principle and gave priority to building an efficient school system.

However, the deterioration of the quality of education in the state today is a matter of shame.

According to the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2.0report released by the Union Ministry of Education for the academic year 2021-22, the state of Maharashtra has directly fallen from the second position to the seventh position.

This is a matter of great concern from the point of view of overall educational development of the state.

The criteria on the basis of which this evaluation is done include issues such as academic performance and quality, infrastructure, changing educational process etc.

But as per the PGI 2.0 report, these important factors are not taken seriously in Maharashtra.

Due to this, we as a state have fallen far behind in the quality of education, which is very unfortunate, he said.

The Department of Education, Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, last year held a one-day conference on ‘Empowerment of Two Teachers’ Schools’ to make some observations. Along with this some suggestions were also made in view of changing educational policies.

There are nearly 38m000 two teacher schools of Zilla Parishad in the state. They are mainly located in mansions and because the number of students is less, there is a discussion of closing them from time to time, it is very important for the government to take a serious look at it.

Therefore, timely measures should be taken to improve the deteriorating educational standard.

Considering all these matters, the state government and especially the school education Minister should seriously consider this.

In this regard, a meeting of all concerned should be convened at the earliest and a necessary action program should be prepared. It is expected that efforts should be made to bring the quality of education to the fore, Mr Pawar said in a tweet.
