Dir Agriculture (K) visits Potato Seed Dev Farm Sedaw Shopian

Srinagar: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal on Friday visited Potato Seed Development Farm Sedaw Shopian.
During the visit, the DC inspected different blocks of the farm where he was briefed by concerned officers about the latest initiatives and interventions that are being adopted at the farm.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture said that the agro-climatic conditions of this area are one of the best suited for the potato seed production and by taking advantage from such conducive environmental conditions we can pioneer the potato seed production sector.
He highlighted the importance of the quality seed for a successful cropping season and asked the concerned officers to adopt all real time technologies for a healthy virus free potato seed.
Director Agriculture said that departmental farms are focusing on the development and multiplication of high yielding varieties of agriculture crops (including Potato) appropriate production and protection technologies, Post- harvest management and production of good quality seeds.
He marked the importance of various projects under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program and asked the farmers to work shoulder to shoulder with the department for the successful implementation of these projects.
Later, the Director visited hi- tech polyhouses at Mini secretariat Shopian, Hall Pulwama and said that hi-tech polyhouse technology has played a good role in boosting the Agriculture sector in the region.
The Director was accompanied by Chief Agriculture Officer Shopian, Farooq Ahmad Reshi and other officers of the department.
