National Conference on “Statistics for Allas held at Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil G’bal, SKUAST-K

Srinagar: One Day National Conference on “Statistics for All” in honour of Professor P.C.Mahalanobis was held at Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil Ganderbal, SKUAST-K on 11th July, 2023.
Organizer(s) of the conference, Prof.(Dr.) Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Head, Division of Social Sciences, FoFy, SKUAST-K said that the conference was organized with an objective of providing a platform to the researchers to learn about the modern tools of Statistics and emerging techniques used these days with advancement in computing facilities. While sharing the details of the program, organizers said that such conference educate the students/researchers/faculty members to correctly use the tools of Statistics invalidating theirs research findings and sensitize the public as to how Statistics helps in shaping and framing policies. In the conference more than 100 researchers participated in the conference across the country and 25 scholars presented their papers via oral/poster mode. The researchers shared their findings in the form of paper and poster presentations in various technical sessions organized during the day. Professor Farooz Ahmad Bhat, Acting Dean, FoFy inaugurated the Conference and delivered the welcome address. Professor Bilal Ahmad Bhat, discussed in brief about the program and objective of organizing this conference. Professor Aquil Ahmed, Chairman Dept of Statistics and O.R., A.M.U., Aligarh as key note speaker discussed in detail about the importance of Statistics and importance of this day. Prof D.S Hooda, Former Hon’ble PVC, Kurukshetra University, Haryana was the Chief Guest for the day explained in detail about the life and contribution of Professor P.C.Mahalanobis. In this conference two new books were released one entitle Statistical Techniques in Research and Development by Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat and second entitled Illustrated Dictionary of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics by Dr. Mohd Ashraf Rather, Azra Shah Ishtiyaq Ahmad, Irfan Ahmad and Adnan Amin, FGB, FoFy, SKUAST-K. Prof.(Dr.) Adnan Abubakr, Head, Division of AEM, FoFy, SKUAST-K, Srinagar (Co-organiser of conference) presented vote of thanks on this occasion. He thanked Hon’ble V.C. SKUAST-K Director Research, Dean Students Welfare, Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, Directors of SKUAST-K, organizers of this conference, NAHEP, guests, scientists/scholars from different institutions offline/online, teaching and non-teaching staff of faculty of Fisheries for their support. After the Inaugural session technical session-I and Technical Session-II were held immediately. In technical Session-I, Prof. D.S.Hooda chaired session in which Prof. Rashmi Bhardwaj, GGSIPU was the lead speaker who talked on topic Complex Applications for Decision Making using Statistics in detail. Through her own experience of working with Fisheries data, she put forwarded an example to adopt by the researchers. In technical Session-II, Prof. Aquil Ahmad, chaired session in which Prof. D.S.Hooda was the lead speaker who discussed in detail about the role of statistics in research and development. He shared his vast experience with participants.
To encourage the researchers, the best papers presented in the seminar were awarded. In oral presentation, Statistical Analysis of Impact of Hostel Life on Behaviour and Personality of Students in Kashmir Valley by Ronika Yousuf, Vishwa Bharti Women’s College, Sgr Kashmir, J&K, India (Statistical Analysis of Impact of Hostel Life on Behaviour and Personality of Students in Kashmir Valley, Co-authored, Bilkees Nazir, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Hanuman Lal Verma and Ishrat Mohd ) got first, Uzma Nazir, Division of Aquatic Environmental Management, Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil Ganderbal, SKUAST-Kashmir, J&K (Current Status of Fisheries in J&K and Trend Analysis of Marine, Inland and Total Fish Production in India, Co-authored, Bilal A. Bhat, and Fiba Arif) and Fiba Arif, Division of Social Sciences, Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil Ganderbal, SKUAST-Kashmir, J&K (A Study on Fish Consumption pattern among expecting women in Kashmir Valley, Co-authored, Bilal Ahmad) got third. In Poster presentation, Ariba Fatima, College of Temperate Sericulture-Mirgund, SKUAST-Kashmir, J&K (A Study on Assessment of Awareness, Perceptions, and Opinions of university Students towards Artificial Intelligence in Kashmir, Co-authored, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Aina Bhat and Fiba Arif), got first, Tehleel Nabi, Institute of Home Science, University of Kashmir, Hazratbal Sgr J&K, Co-authored, Gazala Nisar, Shafia) got second and Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Division of Social Sciences, Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil Ganderbal, SKUAST-Kashmir, J&K (Pilgrimage Tourist Flow in Kashmir and its Impact on Environment, Co-authored Sidrat-ul-Muntaha Anees, Samira Khan, and S. N. Geelani ) got third prize.
At the end of the technical sessions valedictory function was held. The organizer interacted with the participants and assured to conduct such seminars from time to time so that every researchers stay updated and get benefitted from the presence of peers, mentors and senior scientists in the seminar. At the end while summing up event Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, organizing Secretary of the conference thanked the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Officials of SKUAST-K, NAHEP, Patron, Co-organiser of conference and all those who helped in one way or the other for the success of this conference. The session was formally closed by Dr. M.M.Kirmani, Division of Social Sciences FoFy, SKUAST-K by presenting Vote of thanks.
