World Population Day: Gandhi Nagar Hospital organises series of awareness activities

Jammu: “World Population Day” was observed on Tuesday here in the Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar to spread awareness among masses about population control.
The event was organised by Administration of the Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu, in collaboration with Directorate of MCH, Family Welfare & Immunizations and under the guidance of Director Family Welfare, Dr. Tabassum Jabeen.
In his opening address, Dr. Parveen Yograj, Medical Superintendent Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu discussed the importance of Population Day and urged the participants to take a pledge to adopt family planning as a choice for happiness and prosperity”.
He said that India accounts for 17.2% of the total world population and requires efficient family welfare services for prosperity.
Dr. Poonam Sethi, Assistant Director Family Welfare presented a PowerPoint presentation on family planning methods like IUCD, Oral pills, Condoms, Tubectomy, Vasectomy and Antara injections.
She said that in J&K total fertility rate of 1.4 is far better than national figures of 2.1.
Other participants included Dr. Shahid Hussain, State Immunization Officer, Dr. Daisy Parihar, Principal ANMT School Gandhi Nagar Jammu, Dr Arti Nayyer, Deputy CMO Jammu, Doctors & Paramedical staff of Gandhi Nagar Jammu & students of ANMT School Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
A poster making competition was also held for students of ANMT School Gandhi Nagar Jammu in which Janvi Sharma won 1st Prize, while 2nd & 3rd Prizes were shared by multiple students. A theme based Nukkad Natak was also presented by ANMT School students with focus on population explosion .
The event concluded with an awareness rally by ANMT School Gandhi Nagar Jammu which was flagged off from the OPD block of the hospital. The rally, raising slogans of population awareness and displaying banners, paraded through Gole Market & adjoining areas & culminated at the Emergency block of the hospital.
