Srinagar : Prof. (Dr.) Ghanshyam Singh on Tuesday delivered an expert talk on “Integrated Photonics: Technology for Next Generation Communication Networks” at Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, (ECE) National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office NIT, Srinagar it was followed by another extensive lecture on scholarships, research grants opportunities with professional societies including SPIE, OPTICA scholarships and grants.
The event was attended by Head ECE Department, Dr.Gausia Qazi, while Prof.Najeeb-Ud-Din, Dr.Amandeep Singh, Dr.Burhan Khurshid, Dr.Ashok Kumar, Dr Sheikh Aamir Ahsan and other faculty members were also present during the talks.
In his message, Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said appreciated the ECE department for organising such lectures. He said these sessions are aimed to expose students to a variety of topics beyond their curriculum.
“It provides a platform to interact and exchange ideas with eminent experts. It helps scholars, students to develop an all-round and nuanced view of a topic and research opportunities,” Prof. Bukhari said.
Prof. Ghanshyam Singh is presently working as a full-time professor with the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur (MNIT).
He is a senior member of SPIE, OSA, IEEE and a Fellow of OSI and IETE. He is the recipient of the 2017 IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Award of the Photonics Society.
Currently, Prof. Ghanshyam is Chair-elect for Optica Technical Group on Optics in Digital Systems (2021-24) and a member of the SPIE Scholarship committee (2021-23).
In his key address, he said PICs have the potential to be the preferred technology for data communications and it is a rapidly evolving field that involves the use of optical components and systems integrated onto a single chip or substrate.
“Integrated photonics will continue to push the boundaries of miniaturization, enabling more complex and functional devices to be integrated onto a single chip. This trend will lead to higher component densities, improved performance, and reduced power consumption,” he said.
Prof. Ghanshyam said there is popularity for PICs due to their robust, compact, and flexible nature, reliability of satisfactory performance, and energy-efficient network systems.
He also highlighted various scholarships and research grant opportunities for students and scholars with professional societies exams
Prof. Ghanshyam said it is unfortunate that students, scholars from NITs, and IITs are not availing of scholarships due to a lack of knowledge.
“Scholarships play a vital role in providing financial support and recognizing academic excellence and it’s important for students to be aware of the available opportunities in the respective field,” he said.
Prof. Ghanshyam said scholarships can open doors to valuable educational and research opportunities, and it’s important to empower students with the knowledge they need to make the most of these resources.
A formal vote of thanks was presented by HOD, ESE Department, Dr.Gausia Qazi. She expressed gratitude to Prof. Ghanshyam for delivering the expert talk and stated that the department will organize more such events in the future.
Dr. Gausia said scholarships provide financial independence to the students during their studies. Urged students avail these opportunities and explore the research in the respective study areas, she added.
