With the laying of foundation stone of Kashmir Medical College & Super-Specialty Hospital by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha in April this year, the Central Government has thrown open gates for private investment in medical education in Jammu & Kashmir. The beginning of private investment with the laying of foundation of this medical college to be developed by Milli Trust, Delhi is by all probabilities the beginning of private investment in medical education in Jammu & Kashmir . By all standards of understandabilities this great initiative by the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi would surely set the stage for changing Jammu & Kashmir into an ideal destination for private investments in medical education in coming few years. It is also an irrefutable fact that in a first in last more than seventy years a private medical college in Srinagar the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir once made fully functional would throw up a unique opportunity to thousands of Kashmiri aspirants to build careers in medical education in their own homeland instead of seeking admissions in private medical colleges not only in different states of the country but also in countries like Bangldesh and Russia. As this ambitious health & medical education project in private sector would be built at cost of Rs. 525 Crores including a Medical College with 150 MBBS seats and a 100 bedded hospital, this biggest investment in health & medical education sector once executed by Milli Trust Delhi would also lay the foundation for world class healthcare facilities in Jammu & Kashmir.

“As two Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO’s) hospitals one each in Kashmir and Jammu division with the capacity of 500 beds have been made functional, the thrust on private investments in medical education in Jammu & Kashmir shows Central Government’s consistency on developing health infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir. Such bigger initiatives on private investment in medical education sector for the purposes of developing quality health care faccilities infact also shows the focus of the Government on inclusive development”.

This is surely the beginning of a new era in health & medical education sector in Jammu & Kashmir which would surely not only contribute to the growth and expansion of quality healthcare in Jammu & Kashmir like many states and union territories of the country but would also drastically reduce the intensity of increasing unemployment and create a competitive environment in health sector in Jammu & Kashmir. As two Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO’s) hospitals one each in Kashmir and Jammu division with the capacity of 500 beds have been made functional, the thrust on private investments in medical education in Jammu & Kashmir shows Central Government’s consistency on developing health infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir. Such bigger initiatives on private investment in medical education sector for the purposes of developing quality health care faccilities infact also shows the focus of the Government on inclusive development.
