Baramulla : Ridiculing the alleged media survey on UCC, former Law Minister Syed Basharat Bukhari on Monday demanded that the Union Government should come clean on the issue and avoid resorting to ” bogus” media surveys on the same. In a strongly worded statement the former minister wondered how some media channels can conduct surveys projecting sort of an approval of Muslim women when nobody has even actually seen the draft proposal. ?
” You have no draft proposal in the public domain yet some channels rush to surveys giving an indication that muslim women are fine with it. This is sheer mockery on the part of selective media.” Mr. Bukhari said in the statement. He demanded that, instead of creating hysteria, the union government should first frame a special law for minorities that protects their fundamental, constitutional and religious rights.
” There must be a special law in place first, where minorities are not threatened to practice their religious obligations, where they are not barred to animal slaughtering for Qurbani, where impediments are not created to prevent them offer prayers and where minorities feel safe and free to perform their religious and fundamental rights.” Said the former minister , adding that Government should avoid boasting about doing reforms for minorities unless they ( minorities) are given freedom to practice their religion and live peacefully.
