Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested 2 drug smugglers including a notorious drug smuggler in Baramulla and also recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Imtiaz Ahmed, assisted by SHO Police Station Kunzer at a checkpoint established at Kharkal Lolpora arrested a drug smuggler identified as Bashir Ahmad Malla S/o Abdul Razak Malla R/o Dhobiwan Kunzer after they intercepted a vehicle (Wagon-R) bearing registration number DL8CQ-4861, adding therein that during search, 19.5Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused following which the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized and the said accused was later shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in its statement also said that in a similar action a police party under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali, assisted by SHO Police Station Boniyar at a checkpoint established at Trikanjan Boniyar intercepted two suspicious persons who on noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but one among them identified as Imran Ahmad Abbasi S/o Late Mohammad Yaseen R/o Nowshera A/P Boniyar was apprehended tactfully while another person managed to flee from the spot, adding therein that during search, 35 grams of Charas like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that the police has later accordingly registered cases under relevant sections of law at respective Police Stations and initiated further investigations, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society but warned that it will act strictly against the people indulging in anti-social activities as per law.
