Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in South Kashmir’s Kulgam and Shopian districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that a police party of Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Laram Ganjipora, intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration number PB04N-9566 driven by Socha Singh S/o Joginder Singh R/o Hair Gurdaspora, Punjab, adding therein that during search, police recovered 20 Kgs of Poppy Straw from his possession and accordingly arrested them following which the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Police in it’s above quoted statement said that in a similar action, a Police party of Police Station Manzgam at a checkpoint established at Avil, arrested a drug peddler identified as Bashir Ahmad Ganie S/o Abdul Karim Ganie R/o Avil besides and 11 Kgs of Poppy Straw was also recovered from his possession who was later shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police further in it’s statement said that in a similar action at Shopian, following a specific information regarding presence of contraband in the house of Ramiz Ahmad Dar S/o Late Gh Nabi Dar R/o Doompora Keegam, a police party of Police Post Keegam alongwith Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said house adding therein that during search 18 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from the said house and the accused was accordingly arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and investigations have been also initiated, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned that pepple found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
