Srinagar: Gianeshwar Sharma , a veteran cricketer of JKCA breathed his last at Jammu in the intervening night of July 2 and July 3, which has saddened the entire cricket fraternity of Jammu & Kashmir.
A floral wreath was laid on behalf of JKCA and condolence meetings were held at Jammu and Srinagar offices, while the contribution of Gianeshwar Sharma to cricket in Jammu & Kashmir was highlighted by those present in the meetings and the prayers were offered for granting peace to the departed soul.
Pertinently, Gianeshwar Sharma played 15 first class matchs between 1965-66 to 1966-67 for Jammu & Kashmir. Apart from being a proficient cricketer , he was also admired for his gentlemanly qualities.
He had also played for Regional Engineering College, Srinagar in early 70’s, and was also a popular figure among the players with whom he shared his experiences and accompanied many JKCA teams as Manager and Coach of various age groups.
He played cricket with lot of humility and grace for which he would be remembered by the Cricket fraternity of Jammu & Kashmir and those who were either associated with him or knew him. His son Anshuman Sharma and elder brother Ashutosh Sharma have also played first class cricket for JKCA.
A resolution was passed in the condolence meetings to express solidarity with the members of the family and also for giving them courage to bear the huge loss.
