4 drug peddlers/smugglers arrested; Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers/smugglers in Ganderbal and Baramulla and also recovered contraband/ Psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Imtiaz Ahmed assisted by IC PP Babareshi arrested a drug smuggler namely Gh Mohiuddin Sheikh S/o Sakhi Mohammad R/o Chandoosa during naka checking at Salamdedar Babareshi and during checking, 14 grams of Heroin like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in it’s statement also said that in a similar action a police party under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla Altaf Ahmad, assisted by Incharge PP Delina at a checkpoint established at Juhama Crossing arrested two wanted drug smugglers identified as Showkat Ahmad Lone S/o Gh Mohiuddin R/o Zehanpora Boniyar & Nazir Ahmad Dar S/o Mohd Maqbool Dar R/o Ladoora, adding therein that during search, 215 grams of Charas like contraband substance was recovered from the said accused.
Stating that in Ganderbal, a Special police team headed by SHO Police Station Ganderbal under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal at a checkpoint established at Dudkant Serch intercepted a vehicle (Eco-Sports) bearing registration No. DL10CF-5260 with two persons on board, Police in it’s statement further said that during searches two Bottles of Codeine Phosphate found filled in two water Bottles capacity one litre each and Petril 5 strips, containing 75 Tablets was recovered. “The accused driver namely Arshid Shafi Bhat S/o Mohd Shafi Bhat R/o Watlar Ganderbal was arrested on the spot but another person boarding the vehicle namely Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Bobsipora fled from the spot and efforts are on to nab him”, reads the above referred police statement. Police in it’s statement furthermore said that the vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized, adding therein that the accused is a chronic Drug Peddler and a Case under NDPS Act was previously registered against him at Police Station Lar.
Stating that police accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned people that it will act tough against those persons induling in anti-social activities.
