Srinagar : On the eve of International Day against Drug abuse and illicit Trafficking, Police on Monday observed series of events at various police establishments across Kashmir. Besides, various rallies & police-public meetings were also organised at various places to aware the youth as well as society from drugs & its ill effects. Fine to the tune of ₹11,900/- was also realised from shopkeepers for selling tobacco products near to educational institutions in a special drive.
According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, on International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Anti-Narcotics Task Force J&K Police in collaboration with Kashmir Road Safety Foundation organized an awareness event and drug free rally in Polo-view Srinagar in which students, officials and locals of the area participated. SSP Anti-Narcotics Task Force Raj Kumar said that together we can curb this menace of drugs and such awareness programs are important for the society. Live demonstration of Calisthenics and Martial Art promoting the culture of fitness among youngsters was also displayed. After the demonstration, all the participants and officials carried out drug free rally which started from Polo-view Market and ended in Press Colony Srinagar. At the conclusion of the event SSP Anti-Narcotics Task Force J&K along with all the participants took pledge to stay away from drugs and also work against the drugs.
In Baramulla, the main event was organised at Govt Degree College Pattan in which DIG NKR Baramulla Vivek Gupta was chief guest. SSP Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure , Principal GDC Pattan Ms. Tasleema Bano, SP Hqrs Baramulla, SDPO Pattan, DySP DAR Baramulla, SHO PS Pattan, IC Police Drug De-addiction Centre Baramulla, Pharmacist PDDC Baramulla, Health worker PDDC Baramulla, teaching and non-teaching staff of GDC Pattan, student of various schools in addition to students of GDC Pattan also participated in the event. DIG NKR Baramulla gave an elaborated view about the menace of drugs, its sources, causes, consequences, role of every member of the society. SSP Baramulla, Principal GDC Pattan, Counsellor PDDC Baramulla, Social Worker PDDC Baramulla and other faculty members of GDC also highlighted the causes and consequences of drug abuse and assured their possible support and cooperation for a peaceful environment.
Furthermore, Police said that it along with officers from Revenue & Education Department conducted special drive Delina, Palhallan, Uri, Sheeri & Singhpora Pattan areas of District Baramulla & fine to the tune of Rs. 11,900/- was realised from shopkeepers for selling tobacco products near to educational institutions. Moreover, Police-Public meetings were conducted at Police Station Chandoosa, Kunzer & Boniyar. These meetings were chaired by SDPO Kreeri, SDPO Tangmarg and SHO PS Boniyar at their respective jurisdictional areas. The chairing officers stressed upon the participants that public cooperation is a key role in eradicating social evils especially drug abuse from the society.
Meanwhile police in Handwara also organised awareness rallies and seminars at various places to generate awareness about drug abuse and its impact on society. Participants were urged to promote healthy living and shun substance abuse. The programmes were held in collaboration with BHSS Handwara, GHSS Vilgam, GHSS Unisoo, GHSS Zachaldara, Boys Model HSS Qalamabad, GHS Kachloo and Panchayat Ghar Magam. Students, teachers and non-teaching staff of schools, sarpanches, panchs, medical fraternity Handwara and respectables of areas participated.
In Awantipora, the day was observed at various Police establishments and institutions by means of organizing awareness rallies/debates & seminars all across the Police District. Banners & Placards on ill-effects of drug abuse were displayed at prominent public places to aware the youth as well as society to stay away from drugs & about the ill effects of the drug abuse. In Sub Division Pampore, a seminar was conducted at Govt. Degree College Pampore to aware the youth as well as society to stay away from drugs and the ill effects of the drug abuse was also discussed during the seminar. The seminar was organised by Government Degree College Pampore in collaboration with Awantipora Police. Moreover, an awareness rally was organized in the jurisdiction of Police Station Khrew started from Seer Public High School Khrew and culminated at Khrew Chowk. In Sub-Division Tral, a rally was organized from Government Degree College Tral which rallied through various routes of Town Tral and culminated at Bus Adda Tral. In Sub-Division Awantipora, a rally was organized from Dogripora to Kawani.
Similarly, in Pulwama, Police organised rallies on drug abuse at Pulwama, Rajpora, Lassipora and Kakapora with students of various schools. The rallies were conducted with the collaboration of various schools.
Police said that the aim of the rallies/seminars is to make the students and general public aware of drug abuse, including consumption, cultivation, sale, transport and other social crimes resulting out of drug abuse in the society. It was also urged upon the participants to cooperate the Police in eradicating the menace of drugs and other evils from the society.
