Int’l Day against Drug Abuse: Social Welfare Deptt Poonch organizes Bike Rally, awareness programme

Poonch: To mark the observance of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the District Social Welfare Department Poonch organized a bike rally and awareness programme to highlight the ill effects of drugs and promote awareness among the public.
Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary, along with Senior Superintendent of Police, Vinay Sharma, flagged off the bike rally here from the DC Office Poonch.
The rally, which saw participation from various organizations such as the Motor Vehicle Department, NCC Unit, SKC Degree College Poonch, and NGO Sir Syed Education Mission, passed through Chandak– Kalai villages and culminated at the SKC Degree College ground in Poonch.
Later, an awareness programme on drug abuse & illicit trafficking was held in the auditorium of SKC Degree College.
DDC Chairperson, Tazim Akhter and Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M.Choudhary launched NASHA MUKT PANCHAYAT ABHIYAN in which a large number of attendees, including students, NGO members, officers, officials, and locals were present.
Earlier, District Social welfare officer, Mohinder Paul, warmly welcomed the DDC Chairperson, Tazim Akhter & Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M.Choudhary and highlighted the district administration’s efforts in tackling drug abuse in the district for the betterment of the youngsters.
The Chairperson District Development Council (DDC), while speaking, highlighted the ill effects of drug addiction and urged the audience to cooperate with the district administration and police to make the district drugs-free
The Chairperson also expressed her gratitude towards the media for covering every event and spreading awareness about drug abuse and the schemes provided by the government to combat this issue and others also.
While speaking, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of promoting awareness among youngsters and the public to avoid drugs and its ill effects. He further said the district administration and police are working towards this goal and need the cooperation of the people to achieve it.
He urged the public to come forward and report any suspicious activities related to drug addiction or drug peddling to the authorities. The district administration and police will take strict action against the offenders and provide rehabilitation facilities to the victims
The social welfare department also organised a colourful cultural programme on the occasion in which the artist of Sarwati Sangeet Kala Kendra Poonch led by Pardeep Khanna, presented cultural items including Nukad Natak and cultural songs aimed at raising awareness among the public about drug abuse among youngsters.
The event was a successful effort to promote awareness and discourage drug abuse in the district.
Among others present in the event were President Municipal Council Poonch, Sunil Sharma; Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik, Gen Manager DIC, Zakir Hussain, Chief Medical Officer Poonch, Dr.Anees Altaf Nabi, District Treasury Officer Poonch, Rashid Dostum, Chief Horticulture Officer, Sanjeev Kumar, Medical Superintendent district hospital poonch, Dr.Zulafkar Ahmed, Chairman Pir Panchal, Molvi Fareed, Tehsildar Hqr, Jhangir Hussain, Principal SKC Degree College Poonch, Dr.Jasbir Singh, CEO Education, Bishamber Dass, MVI Inspector, Gurmeet Singh, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Parviaz Ahmed Khan, Prof. Sarfarz Mir, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer, Mohd.Azam Rather and other dignitaries.
