Bandipora: The Department of Excise and Taxation on Monday organised a day-long awareness programme to observe the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Dak Bunglow, Sumbal.
The event was attended by students, Social activists, public representatives and other officers of the sub-division.
The event was chaired by In-charge North Kashmir Excise and Taxation department Showkat Ahmad Bahar.
Officials said the main aim to organise such events is to educate the general public about drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The speakers explained about the health hazards and breeding of anti-social elements because of substance abuse and illegal drugs trade and sensitized the people about their duties and responsibilities in this regard to weed out the menace.
The officers appealed to the society to join hands with them to eradicate the drug menace from the district. They said that the menace of drugs has to be eradicated completely and several interventions by the Government to restrict the supply of drugs have been effective in containing the abuse and sought people’s cooperation in this regard.
