Though spurious drugs are biggest threat to the health of the people but yet actions against the retail drug outlets engaged in sale of spurious drugs are no where visible in either Kashmir Valley or Jammu division. Though the violation of safety standards noticed in the Central Government’s data on 209 drug manufacturing units is an eye opener for drug control department of all the states and union territories of the Government but the drug control department falling under the administrative jurisdiction of Health & Medical Education Department in Jammu & Kashmir is yet to identify the drug outlets against whom allegations of selling spurious drug are galore and no mega inspection drive has been launched so for against such retail drug outlets for the purposes of punishing the guilty. By all standards of understandabilites the investigation against the drug outlets accused of selling spurious drugs would be the best way to trace the actual source of the spurious of drugs .Never forget that spurious drugs if allowed to go unchecked won’t take the drug control department to the actual sources of the supply of such drugs and as such supply of such drugs can consequently put to risk health of thousands of both adults and children across Jammu & Kashmir. Since in many states and union territories the drug control authorities are even cancelling the drug licenses of the drug outlets for being involved in the trade of spurious drugs, the onus of carrying out a massive drive against the trade of spurious drugs in Jammu & Kashmir lies on the drug control department of Jammu & Kashmir Government. Since Central Government is pursuing policy of zero tolerance against the trade of spurious drugs, it would be better for the drug control department of Jammu & Kashmir Government also to vehemently pursue a policy of zero tolerance against the trade of spurious drugs both in Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division.

“Ultimately quality norms if devised and subsequently enforced for the purposes of regulating the trade practices and procedures of drug outlets could reduce the supply of spurious drugs in Jammu & Kashmir . Drug testing facilities if upgraded in Jammu & Kashmir is also a way to regulate trade practices and procedures of drug outlets and curb the trade of spurious drugs in Jammu & Kashmir”.

While the Central Government has so for issued show cause notices to 71 firms besides shutting down 18 firms in different parts of the country, the drug control department of Jammu & Kashmir Government is yet to issue show cause notice against the drug outlets against whom the allegations of involvement in spurious drug trade are galore both in Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. So obviously there are lapses in the regulation of the practices and procedures of the trade of drugs which need to be identified for the purposes of certain corrective measures. Ultimately quality norms if devised and subsequently enforced for the purposes of regulating the trade practices and procedures of drug outlets could reduce the supply of spurious drugs in Jammu & Kashmir . Drug testing facilities if upgraded in Jammu & Kashmir is also a way to regulate trade practices and procedures of drug outlets and curb the trade of spurious drugs in Jammu & Kashmir.
