Srinagar : Police on Friday said that Police teams in collaboration with officers from the Revenue & Education Department, under Nasha Mukt Abiyan launched a special drive and fine to the tune of Rs. 2600 was realised from shopkeepers for selling tobacco products in Uri, Salamabad & Jhulla areas of the district here on Friday.
According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters, Police Party of Police Station Uri headed by SHO PS Uri alongwith Executive Magistrate, Principal GDC Uri & ZEO Uri conducted surprise checking of shopkeepers located near educational institutions in Uri, Salamabad and Jhulla, besides, a fine to the tune of Rs 2600 was realised from the shopkeepers for selling tobacco products. The checking was aimed to check the selling of tobacco by shopkeepers near educational institutions.
Stating that the checking checking team interacted with the shopkeepers and urged them to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by administration, Police in its statement urged the people to support this initiative and play an active role in creating awareness about the hazards of tobacco use. Parents, teachers, and students are encouraged to report any instances of unauthorized sale or consumption of tobacco products near educational institutions to the authorities.
