Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Handwara and Awantipora and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Vilgam at a checkpoint established at Lilam Crossing, arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohd Saleem Khan S/o Mushtaq Ahmad R/o Manzgam, adding therein that during searches 1 Kg of Charas was recovered from the possession of the accused who was later on accordingly shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Police in its statement further said that in an another similar action in Awantipora, a Police party of Police Post Toll Plaza Chersoo, at a checkpoint established on NHW Chersoo, arrested four drug peddlers identified as Tawseef Ahmad Parray S/o Gh Hassan Parray R/o Pujtang Sangam, Tariq Ahmad Kutoo S/o Gh Nabi Kutoo R/o Tailbal Nishat Srinagar, Sujha Saleem S/o Bashir Ahmad Tarbie R/o Devar Tral and Muzamil Hussain Teli S/o Gh Hassan Teli R/o Habbak Srinagar, adding therein that during searches 2.45 Kgs of Poppy Straw, 2.5 grams of Brown Sugar and 6 grams of Charas were recovered from their possession.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and initiated further investigations into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned people found indulging in drug peddling but warned that it will act tough against them as per law.
