Drug peddler arrested alongwith contraband substance in Shopian

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Shopian and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Special Police Team led by Incharge Police Post Reshinagri during naka checking at Adijan Reshingari intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully by the alert party, adding therein that during search police recovered 8 grams of Brown Sugar like substance from the possession of the said accused who was later identified as Rahul Ahmad Dar S/o Late Mohd Sadiq Dar R/o Khanabal Anantnag and immediately arrested following which he was subsequently shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that Police accordingly registered a case vide FIR No. 32/2023 under relevant sections of law at PS Heerpora and initiated further investigation into the case, Police in it’s above quoted statement also said that in a similar action in Baramulla also, illicit Poppy Cultivation spread over 16 Kanals of land was destroyed at Kamalkote Uri, Madian Uri, Poshnag Kreeri, Zaspora Tangmarg, Pazalpora Tangmarg, Khamindarpora Tangmarg, Mehrajpora Kungamdara, Cheksari Pattan and Dangerpora Pattan and 9 cases under NDPS Act were registered besides which 29 persons were arrested during the last 5 months of current year.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that it will act strictly act according to law against the people found indulging in drug peddling .
