IUST’s Deptt of English celebrated 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s First Folio

Awantipora : A programme was organized by the Department of English, IUST commemorating the publication of Shakespeare’s First Folio which was presided over by Prof Manzoor Ahmad Malik, Dean Academic Affairs, while the renowned theatre personality, Bhawani Bashir Yasir was Guest of Honour.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office Islamic University of Science and Technology, during the programme, a video feature on, ‘Remembering Shakespeare’ highlighting the life and memorials of Shakespeare was relayed, besides lecture series by speakers addressing different facets of his work and his imprint on the literary landscape across cultures and languages. Speaking on the occasion, Bhawani Bashir Yasir said that in-depth characterisation and portrayal of universal values and emotions make Shakespeare one of the timeless playwrights, and his creativity is best appreciated through performances.
Dean Academic Affairs, complimented the Department for organizing the programmes. Dr Munejah Khan, Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities said that publication of First Folio in 1632 was a significant event in literary History, and commemoration of the 400th anniversary is a testament to the relevance and importance of Shakespeare to language and literature. A depiction of Characters from Shakespearean Plays was also held besides a quiz programme on Shakespearean Works.
