Baramulla| June, 18 : One Day Awareness Camp Against Child Sexual Abuse was conducted by Committee Against Sexual Harrasment in collaboration with Student Support Services Government Degree College Baramulla at Government Boys Middle School Chraligund Rafiabad .
Officials said that the main objective of the program was to create awareness among children between 5 years to 13 years of age against various forms of abuse that this age group is vulnerable to, through various audio-visual aids and hands on counseling sessions. The team of resource persons deputed for the purpose included Dr. Romisa Gull (Organising Secretary and Convenor CASH) Dr. S.W. NawBahaar (organising secretary and convenor Student Support Services), Prof. Tehseena Jan, Prof. Tabish Majeed, Prof. Shaista Qayyum and Prof. Baljeet Singh along with students from the Department of Media Studies Government Degree College Baramulla. The experts discussed the role of teachers in preventing various forms of child abuse including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and child neglect. Through a hands on session the participating students were taught how to respond and raise an alarm in case of any potential danger. The experts called for a wider participation of parents and all sections of society in events and activities organised for spreading awareness against child abuse including child trafficking. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Romisa Gull highlighted the need for conducting awareness programs regularly across educational institutions keeping in view the recent spike in child abuse cases across the UT. Pertinent to mention that the event was conducted as a part of “Folwen Toer Gashrawin” initiative by GDC Baramulla that aims at creating awareness against child abuse through a series of events and activities across various government schools.
