Anantnag: Elderline J&K – 14567 on Thursday celebrated World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAD) at Townhall, Pahalgam.
The celebration was attended by DLSA Secretary Tabassum Qadir, SDM Pahalgam, Syed Naseer Ahmad and TSWO Ashmuqam along with Field Response Officers of Elderline, Senior Citizens and youth.
At the outset of the program, DLSA Secretary, SDM and TSWO briefed the participants about the elderline and advised people to take benefits of the facilities provided by elderline.
In addition to this, the DLSA Secretary also provided detailed information about the MWPSC Act (Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007).
Helpage India, implementing agency of elderline Jammu & Kashmir field response officer Younis Ahmad, Mudasir Ah Dar and Mudasir Mohi Ud Din also briefed the participants about the elderline.
Elderline J&K is part of the National Helpline for Senior Citizens. A toll-free number 14567 has been dedicated by the Government of India where the senior citizens can ask for information, guidance, emotional support and field intervention. So far elderline J&K had helped and rescued a large number of senior citizens across Jammu & Kashmir.
At the conclusion of the event Carrom boards and badminton rackets were given to 08 old age clubs from different areas of Tehsil Pahalgam.
