5 drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam & Bla; Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Kulgam, a police party headed by In-charge Police Post Navyug Tunnel Qazigund during its routine patrolling near Navyug Tunnel Qazigund intercepted a suspicious vehicle (Santro) bearing registration No. CH03R-3855 with 4 persons onboard, adding therein that during search of the vehicle, 830 grams of Charas like contraband substance was recovered and later the accused wereidentified as Sher Aalam Khan S/o Nawab Khan & Sohail Ahmad Khan S/o Shahzad Ahmad Khan, both residents of Dadoo Marhama, Anantnag, Ashraf Ali S/o Noor Mohammad R/o Dandal Udhampur and Makhan Lal S/o Hans Raj R/o Ossu Udhampur who were accordingly arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized.
Police in its statement said that in a similar action at Baramulla after acting on the specific inputs about one person namely Zubair ul Islam S/o Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar R/o Tantraypora Palhallan Pattan having hoarded narcotic substance at his residential house a police party of Police Post Palhallan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan along with concerned Magistrate raided the specific location and during search of the house, 9.2 Kgs of Grinded Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered and seized from the accused who was immediately arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that police has accordingly registered cases under relevant sections of law in respective police stations and initiated an investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that it will act strictly against the people indulging in drug peddling as per law.
