Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam district and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party headed by SHO Police station Behibagh at a checkpoint established at Nunmai intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag, who later tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during searches 10.3Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance were recovered from his possession and the person identified as Rayees Ahmad Bhat Bhat S/o Mohd Ayoub Bhat R/o Nunmai was immediately arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered the case vide FIR No. 41/2023 under relevant sections of law in Police Station Behibagh and initiated further course of investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that it will act strictly against the people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law
