5 drug peddlers arrested, Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in different operation and also recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Kreeri at a checkpoint established at Wanigam Kreeri arrested two drug peddlers identified as Mohd Shafi Hajam S/o Nazir Ahmad Hajam and Shabir Ahmad Khan S/o Samunder Khan, both residents of Wanigam Kreeri, adding therein that during searches 18 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from their possession.
Police also said that in a similar action at Delina Baramulla, a police party of Police Post Delina at a checkpoint established at Janbazpora Baramulla arrested a drug peddler identified as Zubair Ahmad Shah S/o Ali Mohammad Shah R/o Janbazpora and during searches 81 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon were recovered from his possession. Moreover police further said that in Kulgam also, a police party of Police Station Devsar at a checkpoint established at Tankipora arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohd Ashraf Malik R/o Hablishi and druing searches 80 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession.
Police in it’s above statement furthermore said that in Awantipora also, a police party of PP Reshipora headed by IC PP Reshipora at a checkpoint established at Panzgam Oudipora Crossing, arrested a drug peddler identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Wagay S/o Gh Ahmad Wagay R/o Oudipora Panzgam Awantipora, addring that during searches 13.5 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law against all accused persons and later shifted them to the respective police stations for custody, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that it will take strict actions against those found indulging in anti-social activities.
