5 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested five drug peddlers, smugglers in Baramulla, Awantipora & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Baramulla, a police party led by SHO Police Station Pattan under the supervision of Incharge SDPO Pattan at a checkpoint established at Palhallan Morh Pattan intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, a police spokesman said in a statement issued here on Saturday reads.
During the search, 72 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon Plus & 4 syrups of codeine phosphate was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Wani @ Shabir son of Ghulam Nabi Wani resident of Bhat Mohalla Pattan. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody, he said. Meanwhile, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Kreeri assisted by SHO PS Chandoosa arrested a drug smuggler namely Ab Gani Sofi son of Ab Rashid Sofi resident of Shumlaran Chandoosa during naka checking at Galibal Chandoosa. During checking, 18grams of Charas & 32grams of Cannabis Powder like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody, police said.
In Awantipora, a police party of Police Post Reshipora headed by Incharge Police Post Reshipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Panzgam Bachipora Crossing intercepted a suspicious person identified as Gulzar Ahmad Dar son of Gh Hassan Dar resident of Panzgam Awantipora. During checking, 4.2Kgs of (grinded Poppy Straw) like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody, the statement further reads.
In Kulgam, a police party of PS Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Kewa intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag who tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Sood son of Ghulam Hassan Sood resident of Gujarbasti, Kewa. During the search, officers were able to recover 01kg of Ganja like contraband substance from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody, police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, a police party of PS Behibagh at a checkpoint established at Daderkoot crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Suhail Ahmad Ganie son of Mohd Yaqoob Ganie resident of Daderkoot. During the search, officers were able to recover 07 grams of heroin like contraband substance from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody, police said. Regarding the incidents, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated. “Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said
