Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and Awantipora in south Kashmir and also recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Kulgam, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Devsar at a checkpoint established at Gund Tankipora intercepted a suspicious person identified as Umer Nazir Lone S/o Nazir Ahmad Lone R/o Sonigam, adding therein that during checking 3 grams of Heroin like contraband substance were recovered from the possession of the said accused who was subsequently arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in it’s statement also said that in a similar action in Anwatipora also, a police party headed by Incharge Police Post Reshipora under the supervision of Incharge SDPO Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Panzgam Astanpora Crossing intercepted a suspicious person identified as Ashik Hussain Dar S/o Mohd Ashraf Dar R/o Panzgam Awantipora and during checking recovered 1 kg of Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered from his possession following which the said accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that cases under relevant section of law were registered at the concerned police stations and investigations were also initiated, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that it will strictly act against the people involved in anti-social activities as per law of the land.
