Srinagar: Police on Wednesday organised cyber-crime Awareness Programmes in Awantipora and Ganderbal.
According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar in Awantipora, Cyber Awareness Day cum Cyber Jagrukta programmes were held at Sub Division Pampore, Awantipora & Tral. At Sub-division Pampore, the programme was chaired by SDPO Pampore Imtiyaz Ahmad at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Khrew besides the programmes at Sub-division Awantipora & Tral were chaired by respective Station House Officers at Police Station Awantipora & Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Tral.
Besides in Ganderbal also, Cyber Crime Awareness Programme was organized at Govt. Higher Secondary School Gund on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar. SHO Police Station Gund alongwith other police officers were present on the occasion.
Police in it’s statement said that these programmes were attended by respectable citizens of these areas, teachers and students of various institutions. The main motive behind conducting such programmes is to provide awareness of cyber frauds among the general public particularly students. Speaking on these occasions, the chairing officers advised the participants to adopt safe browsing habits to avoid suspicious websites while surfing the internet. The participants were advised not to share OTPs or bank account details, passwords and to adopt precautions while conducting internet banking and online transactions. The participants were also briefed about various types of cyber threats/crimes such as identity theft, credit card fraud, data stealing, cyber stalking, OTP frauds, online gaming fraud etc.
Participants appreciated the efforts of Police for organising Cyber-crime awareness programmes and spreading awareness about various cybercrimes among the common masses.
