5 Drug peddlers arrested in Bla & Kulgam, Poppy cultivation destroyed in Sopore: Police

Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested 5 drug peddlers in Baramulla and Kulgam districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession besides destroying poppy cultivation in Tehsil headquarter Sopore.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Station Sheeri at a checkpoint established at Dangerpora Market intercepted 3 persons riding a motorcycle bearing registration number DL9SB-5432 and identified them as Shafeeq Ahmad Naikoo S/o Gh Rasool, Yasir Ahmad Lone S/o Fayaz Ahmad & Fayaz Ahmad Wani S/o Ab Jabar, all residents of Dangerpora Sheeri, adding therein that during searchwa 170 grams of Charas was recovered from the possession of all the three accused who were arrested and the motorcycle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action a police party of Police Station Pattan at a checkpoint established at Nehalpora Cheksari Pattan arrested a drug peddler identified as Bilal Ahmad Shah S/o Gh Nabi Shah R/o Kalsari Pattan and during searches 70 grams of Cannabis Powder & 5 Kgs of Poppy Straw were recovered from his possession, adding therein that the said accused was immediately shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Stating that a police party of Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Wanpora intercepted a suspicious person carrying nylon bag who tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully, Police in it’s statement said that the said accused was later identified as Mohd Amin Bhat S/o Abdul Rashid Bhat R/o Check Badwani and during searches 2 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession.
Police in it’s above statement further said that it along with Naib Tehsildar Sopore and Excise department, destroyed poppy cultivation spread over vast area of land at Dharnambal in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo, adding therein that police has accordingly registered cases under relevant section of law at respective police stations and initiated an investigations into the cases, accordingly.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it fully in curbing the menace of drugs from the society but warned people that it will act strictly against the people indulging in anti-social activities.
