Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and recovered contraband substance from his possession. Besides, police also destroyed poppy cultivation in Sopore.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Levdoora Crossing intercepted a vehicle (Van) bearing registration number JK03E-1870 driven by Tariq Ahmad Ganie S/o Mohd Ahsan Ganie R/o Nussu, Badragund adding therein that during searches 2.5 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from the possession of the accused who was arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Stating that police has accordingly registered a case vide FIR No. 98/2023 under relevant sections of law in Police Station Qazigund and accordingly initiated investigation into the case, Police in it’s statement further said that it alongwith Excise department in Sopore destroyed huge cultivation of Poppy spread over vast land at village Krankshivan in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo. Police in it’s statement also advised people dealing with cultivation of poppy and other Narcotic substances to destroy the same on their own, failing which strict actions will be taken against the violators.
Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned people that it will take stern actions against those found indulging in drug peddling or any other anti-social activities.
