World leaders condole deadly Odisha train accident

New Delhi: Condolences poured in from world leaders over the tragic train accident in Balasore in Odisha in which over 260 passengers were killed, and over 900 injured. Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were among those who condoled the fatalities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a message to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed condolences over the deadly train collision.

“We share the grief of those who lost their loved ones in this tragic accident and wish a speedy recovery for those injured,” the message read.

Japanese PM Kishida in a message to PM Modi said: ”I am deeply saddened by the news of the loss of many precious lives and the injuries in the train accident in the State of Odisha. On behalf of the Government of Japan and people, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and their bereaved families. I also pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.”

French President Macron in a message said: “My deepest condolences to President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi and the people of India after the tragic train accident in Odisha. France stands in solidarity with you. My thoughts are with the families of the victims.”

European Union President Ursula Von Der Leyen said: “Terrible news from India.

“I express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the Odisha train accident and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.

“The people of India are in our thoughts in this time of sorrow.

“Europe mourns with you @narendramodi”

Sikyong Penpa Tsering, the head of the Tibetan government in exile, expressed his condolences: “Profoundly pained to learn of the tragic train crash in Odisha. CTA & Tibetans extend heartfelt condolences to those grieving the loss of dear ones & prayers for swift recovery of those injured. With rescue ops underway, we pray for glimmers of hope in this heartbreaking tragedy.”

The Pakistan PM in a message said: “Deeply saddened by the loss of hundreds of lives in a train accident in India. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this tragedy. Prayers for speedy recovery of the injured.”

Australian Defence Minister Penny Wong in a message said:

“We send our deepest sympathies following the devastating train crash in India’s eastern Odisha state. Our thoughts are also with the many injured, and with the emergency personnel working to assist them.”

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen in a message said: “Praying for everyone affected by the train accident in India. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families, and hope that rescue operations can save all those in need.”
