2 drug peddlers arrested; Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Poppy cultivation destroyed in Sopore, Awantipora

Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it arrested two drug peddlers and also recovered contraband substances from their possession, adding therein tha poppy cultivation have also been destroyed in Sopore and Awantipora.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Post Wussan at a checkpoint established at Noorbagh Crossing Wussan, arrested a drug peddler identified as Sarvar Ahmad GanieS/o Ab Bashir GanieR/o WussanKhoie and during searches recovered 53 grams of Charas from the possession of the said accused who was later shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at the respective police stationa and an investigation has been also launch, Police in it’s statement said that in a similar actione police Station Tral received a specific input about one person namely Farooq Ahmad Lone S/o Ab Ahad Lone R/o Gulabagh Wanbathu Tral having indulged in drug peddling and hoarding huge quantity of narcotic substances in his residential house, adding therein that while acting swiftly, a police party led by SHO Police Station Tral along with concerned Executive Magistrate raided the specific spot and during searches recovered 17 Kgs of Poppy Straw from the said residential house following which the accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remain in custody.
Stating that a case vide FIR No. 47/2023 has been registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Tral and initiated further course of investigation, Police in it’s statement further said that meanwhile it has launched a special drive against poppy cultivation and destroyed poppy cultivation spread nearly about 05 Kanals at Shahabad Awantipora, adding therein that police along with Excise department in Sopore, also destroyed poppy cultivation spread over vast area of land at Adipora Sopore in the jurisdiction of Police Station Sopore.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that it will act strictly against the people indulging in drug peddling and other anti social activities as per law.
