2 drug peddlers arrested in Shopian, Awantipora, drug smuggler booked under PIT NDPS Act in Bla: Police

Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has booked a drug smuggler under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla besides arresting two drug peddlers in Shopian and Awantipora .
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a drug peddler namely Owais Naseer Sheikh S/o Late Naseer Ahmad Sheikh R/o Sangrama Sopore has been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, adding therein that the booked drug smuggler has been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu. Police in it’s statement further said that many a cases were registered against the above named accused for being involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Sangrama, Delina & Kanispora and other areas of District Baramulla. Policein it’s statement also said that despite his involvement in many FIRs, the said drug peddler did not mend his activities and was found again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.
Police in it’s statement further said that during the past five months, Baramulla police have registered 144 cases under NDPS Act and arrested 194 drug smugglers including 25 most wanted drug smugglers, adding therein that 23 habitual drug peddlers have been also booked under PIT-NDPS/PSA and the contraband substances worth crores have also been recovered/seized in the last five months.
Stating that in a similar action in Shopian also a police party under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Shopian assisted by SHO PS Shopian at a checkpoint established at Arahama arrested a drug smuggler after they intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration number JK22C-4970, Police in it’s statement further said that the said drug peddler has been identified as Abid Rashid Wani S/o Ab Rashid Wani R/o Heerpora Shopian and during checking, 106 grams of contraband charas like substance have been recovered from the said vehicle.
Police in it’s above statement further said that in Awantipora also, while acting on specific inputs a police party of Police Station Pampore headed by SHO PS Pampore under the supervision of SDPO Pampore Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir placed as a special Naka at Patalbagh and arrested a drug peddler identified as Adil Maqbool S/o Mohd Maqbool Sheikh R/o Patalbagh Pampore . Stating that during the searches 1Kg and 500 grams of charas powder was recovered from the possession of the above named accused, Police in it’s statement said that the arrest and seizure was done with the assistance of Executive Magistrate Pampore and Legal metrology Department Pulwama and later all the accused persons were shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Disclosing that the police has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that it will act strictly against the people indulging in drug peddling and other anti-social activities.
