2 day free medical health check up camp concludes at GDC Baramulla

Baramulla: The two days free health checkup camp held at Government Degree College Baramulla in collaboration with Government Medical College Baramulla concluded on 30th of May after hundreds of students and staff members took medical consultations from a team of 20 eminent doctors deputed for the purpose by Government Medical College Baramulla. The main objective of this camp was to provide medical help to students who find it difficult to take medical consultations from experts due to various reasons including lack of time and resources.
Doctors from key specializations including General Medicine, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology rendered their services at the 2 day camp, which was inaugurated by Principal GDC Baramulla Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Rather in the Physical Education Block of the college on 29th of May, 2023. Prof. Rather during his inaugural address highlighted the importance of physical and mental fitness and the significance of holding such events in promoting social, mental and physical health. The closing ceremony was held in the New Conference Hall of the college in presence of dignitaries including Mr. Sheikh Abid Manzoor (KAS), Dr. Amjad Ali Shah, Dr. Gousia Nazir among others. Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Rather in his presidentialaddress deliberated on the changing paradigms of health and wellness that are fundamental to a successful life. He also expressed his gratitude towards the visiting doctors whose relentless service made the camp a success. Speaking on the occasion Vice-principal of the college Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo said that the medical and health sector has undergone a sea of change in the recent years which has lead to an increased awareness regarding physical and mental health among the masses. Dr. Amjad Ali Shah who happens to be an alumnus of the institution called for bridging the gap between academia and medical fraternity for achieving common good of the society. Mr. Sheikh Abid Manzoor (KAS) who was the guest of honour and represented GMC Baramulla reiterated their support in conducting such events in the future for the benefit of students.Mr. Abid who is also an alumnus of the college got nostalgic while talking about his student days in the institution and impressed upon the students to work harder in order to achieve their goals.Towards the end mementos and certificates were presented to the doctors who rendered their services during the two day long camp. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Shaista Qayyum.Pertinent to mention that the camp was organized jointly by the Student Support Services and Committee Against Sexual Harassment Government Degree CollegeBaramulla (Autonomous).
