Mission Life for Environment: Essay Writing, Poster Making competitions held at GCW Udhampur

Udhampur : To celebrate World Environment Day 2023, which would be observed on June 5, the NCC unit (1 J&K Girls Battalion NCC, Srinagar) of Government College for Women, Udhampur is organizing a series of activities with the support and guidance of the College Prof. Anjali Mahajan. The series focuses on the themes of Mission Life (Lifestyle for Environment), G-20 and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsa.
In continuation to the ongoing series of activities, the NCC unit, on the 3rd day, organized an essay writing competition on the theme ‘Plastic Free India’ to generate environmental awareness among the students. The medium of expression was English and Hindi.
The main aim and motive of conducting this activity was to create awareness and to generate some innovative ideas among the community on how to reduce the use of single use plastics.
A total of 15 NCC cadets of 1 J&K Girls BN NCC Srinagar, actively participated in the competition and highlighted the harmful effects of using plastic in our day-to-day life. They also expressed their views and suggestions for making India plastic free.
Earlier, NCC Caretaker of the BN, Shallu Jasrotia, briefed about the rules and highlighted the main theme of the competition ‘Plastic Free India’.
Principal of the college, Prof Anjali Mahajan, appreciated the efforts of the NCC cadets and explained how being environmentally conscious is extremely important and the need of the hour. She also extended warmest wishes to NCC cadets for future endeavors.
Meanwhile a poster making competition on “Say no to plastic” was also held in the College under mission life.
The event was organized by Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Club, ECO Club and NSS unit of the College under the guidance of Principal of the College, Prof. Anjali Mahajan, and convenorship of Dr. Kewal Kumar, Prof. Tania Mahajan and Prof Sumita Rao and in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. About 32 students participated in the competition and made beautiful and message oriented posters on the given theme.
