NCORD meeting held in District Udhampur

DC asks for reinforcement of measures to check drug trafficking

Udhampur: A meeting of the Centre for District-Level Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee was held on Friday in Mini Conference Hall DC Office Complex under the Chairmanship of Sachin Kumar Vaishya, District Magistrate Udhampur.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr Vinod Kumar; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Joginder Singh Jasrotia; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Rafiq Ahmed Jaral; District Social Welfare Officer, Kanika Gupta; CMO, Dr Anil Manhas; Assistant Drug Controller, Principals of Degree Colleges and other officers attended the meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed on strengthening nakas and keeping strict vigil on any such attempt by the unscrupulous elements to smuggle drugs. The DC advised to ensure that Investigations under NDPS Act are conducted in a most professional manner. He further asked to identify the persons with drug addiction in the district for their de-addiction and rehabilitation. The DC directed all the stakeholders to launch mass awareness campaigns against Drug and Substance abuse under Nasha Mukt Abhiyan in schools and Colleges. He directed the Chief Education officer and Principals to appoint Nodal Officers in their institutions to create awareness and identification of students using drugs, if any.
The SSP said that police have intensified vigil to tighten noose around drug traffickers with all Police stations instructed to strengthen checkpoints to keep eye on the suspects. He further said that a mass awareness programme has been launched to aware people about the hazards of drug abuse.
The DC directed to take special measures to keep strict check on operation of drug peddlers in any manner around the educational institutions in the district.
Regarding rehabilitation of addicts, the CMO informed that a 5 bedded De-addiction centre is functional in the Government Medical College premises Udhampur. The DC directed CMO to put hoardings to publicize the helpline number 14416 for rehabilitation of identified drug users. Tehsildar Udhampur informed that the Revenue papers of identified 4 Kanal State land at Village Jhakhar have been finalized for establishing the drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centre.
The DC directed the Assistant Drug Controller to enforce 100% installation of CCTV cameras and computerized billing in all the establishments dealing with Medicines. The SDMs and Tehsildhars attended the Meeting virtually.
