Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested 8 drug peddlers/smugglers in Shopian & Baramulla districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarter Srinagar Police said that in Shopian, a police party led by Incharge Police Post Keegam at a checkpoint established at Peerpora Keegam intercepted two suspicious persons and during searches recovered 184 grams of Charas like substance wrapped in corn leaves from the possession of the accused who were later identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar S/o Sonaullha Dar R/o Arihal Pulwama & Akir Ayoub Hakim S/o Mohd Ayoub R/o Arihal Pulwama.
Police in it’s statement said that in a similar kind of action in Zainapora a police party led by SHO PS Zainapora under the supervision of SDPO Zainapora Riaz Ahmad at a checkpoint established at Reban Shopian intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK13G-7741 with two persons on board but while seeing the naka party, both the persons left the vehicle and managed to flee from the spot and during search of the said vehicle, police recovered 3.5kgs of Poppy Straw like substance and the vehicle was immediately seized.
Stating that in Baramulla district also a police party under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla Sajjad Bukhari assisted by Incharge PP Delina during routine patrolling at Juhama Baramulla arrested a wanted drug smuggler identified as Shabir Ahmad Lone S/o Ab Rehman Lone R/o Nadihal Baramulla and during searches recovered 72 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession, Police in it’s statement further said that a police party under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla Sajjad Bukhari, assisted by SHO PS Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Khanpora Baramulla arrested 2 wanted drug smugglers identified as Shahid Ahmad Marazi S/o Ghulam Qadir R/o Kanlibagh Baramulla & Adil Ahmad Gogri S/o Bashir Ahmad R/o Khanpora Baramulla from whom 12 grams of Brown Sugar like substance was recovered.
Police in its above quoted statement furthermore said that a police party under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla assisted by SHO PS Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Janbazpora Baramulla near Juice Factory arrested 3 wanted drug smugglers identified as Atiqullah Lone S/o Mohd Akbar Lone R/o Tujjar Sharief Sopore, Gh Mohiuddin Dar S/o Ab Ahad Dar R/o Ladoora Rafiabad Sopore & Gulzar Ahmad Ganie S/o Habibullah Ganie R/o Chijhama Rafiabad Sopore, besides, adding therein that 101 grams of Brown Sugar like substance was also recovered from the possession of the said accused who have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered cases under relevant sections of law in the respective police stations and accordingly initiated investigation into the case. Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned that it will act strictly against the people induling in drug peddling as per law.
