India holds second meeting of task force to ensure exercise of rights under Indus Water Treaty

New Delhi: The second meeting of the task force to ensure exercise of India’s rights under the Indus Water Treaty was held in Srinagar today, chaired by Vikram Misri, Deputy National Security Advisor, during which he reviewed the progress of various hydro-power projects in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting noted that “progress had been made on several fronts and emphasis was lad on completing the works on all the Indus Basin Projects in a timely manner to enable better utilisation of India’s rights under the Indus Water Treaty,” a statement by the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation said.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of External Affairs and Commissioner (Indus) of the Jal Shakti Ministry, and officials from the Jammu and Kashmir administration among others.
During his two-day visit, the Deputy NSA called on Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and apprised him of the “ongoing efforts to monitor implementation of hydro power projects in the Indus Basin under the directions of the Prime Minister’s Office”, the statement added.
The LG “assured full cooperation of the UT administration in this national endeavour”.
The Deputy National Security Advisor also met with the top military and security officials in the Union Territory and “was briefed on the prevailing situation in the valley of Kashmir”.
