Women College Gandhinagar Jammu’s NSS unit conducts Campus cleanliness drive

Jammu: As the part of series of activities being conducted under Mission Life Campaign-2023, NSS Volunteers of Unit 1 of Govt College for Women Gandhinagar, in collaboration with Dept of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing conducted a Plastic/ Polythene cleanliness drive on the campus.
The activity was conducted prior to World Environment Day falling on 5th June 2023 bearing theme- Beat The Plastic Pollution. The drive was conducted under the guidance of NSS Coordinator CLUJ Prof Mala Bhasin and overall supervision of Prof Minu Mahajan, Principal of the college. The students cleaned the college campus and collected plastic garbage from every nook and corner of the college premises. They also carried out a campaign on ‘Say No to Plastic’ and emphasized making the campus plastic free. A total of 50 NSS volunteers of Unit 1 participated in this cleanliness drive.
On this occasion, Prof Minu Mahajan, Principal of college said that cleanliness is most important for physical well-being and a conducive environment in the campus. It is essential for everyone to learn about cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation and various diseases that are caused due to poor hygienic conditions. We can maintain cleanliness at home by emptying the trash bin regularly, dusting walls and ceilings periodically, cleaning kitchen countertop and sink after every use to keep it dry and bacteria-free. Cleanliness ensures a healthy mind and physique.
Prof Mala Bhasin , Coordinator added that “It is not the responsibility of only one person, rather it is the duty of everyone to maintain healthy surroundings . She also told the students not to litter on the roads and go for clean and green environment to nurture it for the future generations.
The representatives from Ecology and Remote Sensing department – Mrs Hency Pandita and Dr. Zubair Ahmad also made students aware of the benefits of a plastic free environment and thanked the principal and coordinator for their support in organising such events in the college. Prof Sugandha Mahajan NSS Programme officer( Unit 1) coordinated the event successfully.
