Environmental Plan formulation meeting convened at Kupwara

Kupwara: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kupwara, Gh. Nabi Bhat on Wednesday convened a meeting of the District Environment Committee at Mini-Meeting Hall of DC Office Complex, here to discuss the formulation of the District Environment Plan.
The ADC Kupwara took a detailed review of the proposed District Environment Plan which shall be theme based.
Meeting deliberated in detail about the environmental plan including the seven thematic areas having Solid Waste Management Plan, Water Quality Management Plan, Domestic Sewage Management, Industrial Waste Water Management, Air Quality Management, Mining Activity Management and Noise Pollution Management plans.
The ADC Kupwara directed all the concerned officers to ensure strict compliance of the Government regulations regarding scientific disposal of solid and liquid waste in all the three Municipalities of Kupwara district.
He asked for expediting the pre-execution processes of the plan on sustainable and smart lines. He also emphasized upon the concerned officers to build momentum on key issues of the environment plan, keeping in view the needs and the people and environment and respecting limits to development besides to examine new areas for development.
ADC Kupwara directed concerned Executive Officers of Municipalities to ensure submission of Solid Waste Management Plans and plan for sewerage treatment plants within two days positively.
He also instructed EO Kupwara Municipality to get the legacy waste cleared from both the sides of Lolab Nallah particularly from Old Bride up to Girhatti on priority basis.
He asked concerned departments to do the plantation alongside the main roads of the district.
The ADC directed the concerned officers to check cleanliness in local hotels and also verify where the hotel waste is dumped by them.
He further directed the concerned officers to mobilize the imams of local Masjids and Ulemas to inform the people on Friday sermons about the importance of cleanliness so that behavioral change patterns are generated among the local population.
ADC gave a timeline of two days for the preparation of the environmental plan and June 1st as the deadline for submission of the plan to higher authorities for approval.
Meanwhile, ACP Kupwara was asked to make the SBM-G phase –II as top most priority in rural areas of Kupwara district and get all main roads and other important places cleared-off legacy waste on priority.
Meeting was attended by CEO Kupwara, ACP Kupwara, DMO Kupwara, GM-DIC, EO Municipality Kupwara, PCB Officer and other concerned.
